Nexxa.ai, a company building AI agents tailored for industrial engineers, has raised $4.4 million in pre-seed funding. The round was led by a16z speedrun, with participation from Augment Ventures, Propeller Ventures, Plug and Play, Beat Ventures, SBI, Untapped Ventures, Cross Atlantic Angels, and angel investors Rick Berry and Pat McCarthy, among others.
The funding follows Nexxa’s selection into a16z's speedrun Badge 5, the venture firm’s elite accelerator for high-potential AI startups. The announcement also comes on the heels of a strong performance—two consecutive quarters of 3x growth in booked annual contract value (ACV).
Across industries like energy, construction, and transportation, over 4 million industrial engineers continue to rely on outdated, fragmented software and manual processes to run complex workflows. Nexxa is stepping into that gap by building AI agents that plug directly into tools engineers already use—no system overhaul required.
“Having worked in industrials for over a decade, I believe that there has never been a more critical time to invest in technology that can have a real impact on our infrastructure. Our goal is to build an AI approach that can understand and learn deeply technical operations from scratch.”
Philipp Wehn, co-founder and CEO of Nexxa
Nexxa’s software integrates with platforms like engineering tools or estimating systems and is capable of operating autonomously or in collaboration with users, dramatically speeding up critical tasks while staying grounded in industry-specific logic.
With this new funding, Nexxa plans to grow its engineering team and deepen development of its AI platform. The company also intends to expand into new industry verticals where complex workflows are still underserved by AI.
As a part of a16z speedrun’s Badge 5, Nexxa gains access to infrastructure support, go-to-market resources, and the broader a16z AI network.
“Philipp brings a deep understanding of pain points for industrial businesses which existing solutions fail to address,” said Sonali Vijayavargiya, founder and managing partner at Augment Ventures. “We are backing Nexxa because they are not just automating tasks but also building intelligent systems that drive results in complex enterprise environments.”
Founded in May 2024, Nexxa is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, and is positioning itself as a leader in Agent Augmented Engineering—an emerging AI category focused on domain-specific workflows.
The team’s early traction includes partnerships with Fortune 100 enterprises and midmarket firms. Nexxa’s AI agents have already demonstrated measurable performance improvements across real-world operations.
“Nexxa is shaping the future of industrial engineering with an execution-focused approach to AI,” said Troy Kirwin, partner at a16z speedrun. “The potential of Nexxa is enormous – and they are just getting started.”
Beyond a16z, Nexxa’s backers span a diverse set of institutional and strategic investors. These include early-stage VC firms like Augment Ventures and Propeller Ventures, as well as global players like SBI and Siemens Mobility—where Nexxa is now part of the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem.
“Nexxa demonstrates strong potential through its focus on AI for industrial engineering and its ability to connect with existing software systems,” said Mario Mattern, head of portfolio management, partnering and startups at Siemens Mobility. “This capability is highly relevant for our customers and partners.”
