Magentic, a startup building AI teammates for procurement and supply chain teams, has secured $5.5 million in funding. The round was led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from The Westly Group, First Momentum Ventures, and a slate of high-profile angel investors, including executives from SAP, Airbus, McKinsey & Company, Hugging Face, Ironclad, and Rosberg Ventures.

The funds will help Magentic expand its team and ramp up deployment of its AI agents—nicknamed “Mages”—to more global manufacturers. The company did not disclose its current valuation.

Procurement at a Breaking Point

Modern supply chains are under immense pressure. From the COVID-19 pandemic to geopolitical conflicts and mounting tariffs, procurement leaders face a complex landscape that legacy tools can no longer navigate effectively.

"Supply chains are the hidden engines of our world, responsible for every phone, medicine, and plane in our lives. Procurement teams are at breaking point, spending hours navigating unstructured information, ever more complex demands, and now global conflict and tariffs."

Robin Van Aeken, Magentic's co-founder and CEO

According to McKinsey & Company, supplier compliance failures account for value leaks of about 2% of total spend—roughly $40 million for a company with a $2 billion procurement budget. One Magentic customer discovered costly errors in 25% of its supplier documents.

Targeting Inefficiencies with AI Teammates

Magentic’s AI agents are designed to plug directly into enterprise workflows, analyzing procurement data and documentation to spot cost-saving opportunities. These agents can operate across disconnected systems, draft contract clauses, identify misaligned payment terms, and surface underused supplier credits.

Rather than acting as a point solution, Mages perform end-to-end tasks. They respond to emails, extract contract insights, and autonomously take actions within a company’s existing software stack. One early deployment helped a $30B manufacturer cut machinery spare parts spending by 4%.

"For the first time, we have the technology to understand all our data across previously incompatible systems. At Magentic, we're motivated by the question: how can complex companies deploy trustworthy, reliable systems capable of following company playbooks to improve outcomes for their suppliers and their customers."

Odhran O'Donoghue, Magentic co-founder and CTO

From Discovery to Deployment in Weeks

Unlike traditional enterprise software, Magentic's model is usage-based, charging only for savings delivered. Its AI agents are already being rolled out to tackle tariff claims and optimize supplier contracts across consumer goods, pharma, and advanced manufacturing sectors.

With a strong emphasis on data security, the company ensures compliance with SOC2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR. Every decision made by a Mage is backed by documentation, enabling teams to track its recommendations with transparency.

Built by Experts in AI and Procurement

Founded by Van Aeken, a former McKinsey consultant for global manufacturers, and O'Donoghue, who holds a PhD in Machine Learning from Oxford and previously led AI projects at OpenAI, NASA, and the Crick Institute, Magentic combines deep domain knowledge with cutting-edge AI engineering.

The founding team is on a mission to reinvent how large enterprises operate in volatile environments. Their goal is not just to improve workflows—but to help organizations become AI-first with minimal onboarding or disruption.

Backed by a Who’s Who of Industry Veterans

Sequoia Capital led the round, with Partner Julien Bek highlighting Magentic’s practical impact: "Today, the best AI companies are selling outcomes not seats. In the old world, SaaS sold the promise of ROI. In the new world, AI actually delivers it. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Robin, Odhran, and the team at Magentic."

Joining Sequoia are First Momentum Ventures, The Westly Group, and angel investors from SAP, Airbus, McKinsey, Hugging Face, Ironclad, and Rosberg Ventures.

Magentic plans to scale quickly in the coming months as it rolls out its AI teammates to more customers navigating rising costs and operational complexity.
