The Swedish energy technology company, Flower, recently completed its Series A funding round, securing an additional €20 million, bringing their total funding to €45 million. This substantial round was led by Northzone and included contributions from Giant Ventures, 82an Invest, Sony Innovation Fund, as well as notable angel investors.
The goal of this funding is to support Flower's ambitious expansion plans across Europe and to further innovate its battery energy storage solutions. Since its inception in 2020, Flower has attracted a cumulative investment of €100 million.
Currently operating in Sweden and Denmark, Flower plans to extend its services to Germany, Austria, Switzerland (the DACH region), France, the Netherlands, and Belgium by 2025 and 2026. This expansion aligns with Flower's mission to redefine energy management, focusing on battery storage and AI-driven solutions to optimize energy distribution. Their objective is to improve flexibility, stability, and predictability in global energy grids, ensuring renewable energy is efficiently stored and readily available.

Northzone’s General Partner, Pär-Jörgen Pärson, who joined Flower’s board, commented on the team’s innovative approach to renewable energy challenges, combining AI-driven optimization and grid-level battery systems to transform Europe’s energy grid.
Europe is progressively shifting towards renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Flower's AI-driven platform addresses the essential need for stable energy storage and distribution. Their Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are directly connected to the energy grid, allowing for the storage of excess energy and its release during periods of high demand. Sony Innovation Fund’s Antonio Avitabile praised Flower’s optimization platform, noting its ability to deploy energy when it is “most clean and affordable.”
Flower's platform leverages artificial intelligence to optimize energy use by integrating data from energy markets, weather forecasts, and consumer behavior models. By analyzing trading data and forecasting energy demand, the platform allows grid operators to anticipate fluctuations and manage supply, thus maintaining grid stability—especially in systems where renewable energy supply can vary significantly.
Flower’s AI capabilities are not only balancing supply and demand in real time but also alleviating pressure on the grid infrastructure. Their approach aligns renewable production—such as solar and wind—with peak demand periods, providing a critical service as Europe reduces its reliance on fossil fuels.
