Foxglove, a data and observability platform for Physical AI, has raised $40 million in Series B financing. Bessemer Venture Partners led the round, with participation from existing investors Eclipse and Amplify Partners, plus Icehouse Ventures.

The funding comes as Physical AI transforms industries including manufacturing, logistics, transportation, agriculture, construction, aerospace, and defense. Foxglove's platform is used by tens of thousands of developers, from early-stage startups to established players such as NVIDIA, Amazon, Anduril, Wayve, and Dexterity.

Building Infrastructure for Real-World Robotics

Physical AI companies face a common problem: creating systems that let robots capture and learn from massive amounts of data in complex, real-world environments. Traditional software platforms weren't designed to handle the unique demands of robotics.

Investors see Physical AI as a major shift comparable to mobile computing or cloud infrastructure. "Foxglove is the clear category leader building the developer tools and infrastructure stack that every robotics company will rely on. Tackling Multimodal Data at Scale

Physical AI creates unique infrastructure challenges. Robotics systems generate multimodal sensor data, massive datasets, and operate in bandwidth-constrained edge environments that require precise time-synchronized analysis.

Foxglove addresses these needs through three core components. First, MCAP, an open-source standard for multimodal logging launched by the company in 2022, has been widely adopted across the Physical AI ecosystem. It's included by default with the popular ROS 2 and NVIDIA Isaac frameworks.

The platform also includes data infrastructure for storage, search, and query of petabyte-scale robotics data. Companies can deploy it across cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments depending on their security and operational needs.

Finally, Foxglove offers interactive visualization that brings together 3D, video, audio, GNSS, time-series, and other data types into a single workspace. This helps developers analyze and debug issues more efficiently.

Expanding Capabilities Across the Data Lifecycle

Foxglove will use the Series B funds to deepen its capabilities in visualization and data management. The company plans to expand its platform to support the entire data lifecycle, from initial prototype to global deployments.

This approach aims to cement Foxglove's position as the leading infrastructure platform for Physical AI. The company has already seen strong adoption among developers working on autonomous vehicles, drones, ocean vessels, warehouse robots, and construction equipment.

"Foxglove helped us to supercharge our processes. We went from days to minutes when finding the root cause of an issue," said J'aime Laurenson from Wayve.

Boris Sofman from Bedrock Robotics highlighted the cost and time savings: "We used to have to reinvent everything, from the hardware to the tools to the labeling systems, and all that infrastructure requires a lot of money, time, and people. When you don't need that, it shortcuts everything you need to bring out a product dramatically, which brings into focus applications that would've been previously infeasible."

From Autonomous Vehicles to Warehouse Robots

Foxglove was founded in 2021 by a team with alumni from Cruise, Aurora, Amazon Robotics, Stripe, and Coinbase. The founders experienced firsthand the challenges of working with robotics data in the autonomous vehicle industry.

Before Foxglove, companies needed to invest tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars building custom data infrastructure in-house. The startup created a modern data engine that lets teams record logs at the edge, sync recordings to cloud or on-premises storage, find events across petabytes of data, evaluate robot performance, and watch frame-by-frame replays using advanced visualization tools.

The company now powers hundreds of customers across industries including automotive, aerospace, defense, logistics, agriculture, construction, and consumer robotics. At the company's recent Actuate conference, over 500 developers gathered to discuss challenges and share insights across different robotics verticals.

Backing from Industry Veterans and New Angels

The Series B round was led by Alexandra Sukin and Jeremy Levine at Bessemer Venture Partners. Previous investors Eclipse Capital and Amplify Partners also participated, along with Icehouse Ventures.

Foxglove also added several angel investors with deep robotics and technology experience, including Tobi Lütke, Alex Kendall, Milan Kovac, Brad Porter, Boris Sofman, Kevin Peterson, Chris Walti, Robert Sun, and Lindon Gao.

The company is now hiring for dozens of roles as it scales to meet growing demand from Physical AI companies. Macneil emphasized the opportunity ahead: "Today is still Day 1 for Physical AI. We believe that robotics will have a massive positive impact over the next decade, and our mission is to build the platform to make it possible."
