Anduril Industries has officially announced it is acquiring Klas, a specialist in rugged edge computing and tactical communications. This acquisition, subject to regulatory approval, aims to bring faster, more adaptable, and mission-specific solutions to defense operations. Though financial terms have not been disclosed, the move will incorporate Klas' Voyager product line directly into Anduril’s evolving suite of autonomous systems.
The Voyager platform is built to withstand extreme conditions—dust, high temperatures, signal jamming, and infrastructure-denied environments—making it well-suited for modern military needs. Already integrated with Anduril’s Lattice AI platform and Menace product line, Voyager will now be a central pillar of the company’s tactical edge infrastructure.
This acquisition also marks a significant step toward reducing the time between innovation and deployment in military environments. As Anduril states, every autonomous system is only as strong as the compute and comms it relies on.
At the core of Anduril's vision is Lattice, an AI-powered software platform that integrates real-time data from thousands of sources to support decisions on the battlefield. By pairing Lattice with Klas’ proven communications and compute hardware, the company can deliver lightweight, modular systems tailored for rapid deployment and rugged field use.
The Menace-T product is a notable example: a portable, rugged command center that fits in two carry-on cases and can be operational within minutes. Menace-T combines compute and networking to enable real-time communication and decision-making in inhospitable environments.
This capability is particularly relevant in projects like the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS), a U.S. Army initiative originally led by Microsoft. While Microsoft continues as a cloud partner, Anduril is now spearheading the effort, integrating Lattice and Klas technologies to tackle long-standing data and processing issues.
While the immediate focus of this acquisition is on defense and government use, Anduril sees potential for wider applications. As edge computing matures, its uses could extend to industrial automation, automotive systems, and environmental monitoring—sectors where portable, high-performance compute solutions are increasingly in demand.
The flexibility of the systems, combined with their resilience, makes them ideal for expanding into civilian use cases. However, for now, the priority remains equipping warfighters with tools that work reliably in complex, dynamic, and infrastructure-poor scenarios.
Tom Keane, SVP of Engineering at Anduril, emphasized Klas’ critical role in enhancing these capabilities: “Klas has already been supplying tech for IVAS for several years. Now we can do even more.”
Klas will continue operating from its existing locations in Ireland and the U.S., with additional manufacturing capabilities planned to meet the growing demand across Anduril’s portfolio. The deal also establishes Anduril’s first office in Dublin, underscoring its commitment to expanding its footprint across Europe, the UK, Asia-Pacific, and beyond.
With 150 employees currently at Klas and over 30 years of experience in edge communications, the merger adds not only technical value but also depth of expertise to Anduril’s global operations.
By blending its agile, Silicon Valley-style approach with Klas’ proven engineering legacy, Anduril is positioning itself to accelerate innovation timelines—getting critical tech into the field faster and more effectively.
