Barcelona-based INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a clinical-stage company working on precision brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), has received a €4 million grant from the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism under the PERTE Chip initiative. The funding will support the development of INBRAIN's graphene-powered BCI technology, which aims to interpret and modulate brain activity in real time for therapeutic purposes.

The PERTE Chip program, designed to boost Spain’s microelectronics and semiconductor sectors, awarded a total of €53.2 million to 37 high-potential projects. INBRAIN’s work was selected for its contribution to strategic fields such as neurotechnology, advanced materials, and AI-based tools.

Positioning Spain and Europe in Deep Tech Healthcare

As part of Spain’s national effort to enhance technological sovereignty, the PERTE Chip program supports innovations with potential to shape future healthcare. INBRAIN’s technology integrates graphene with intelligent computing to deliver biocompatible and adaptive neuromodulation. This has applications for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke recovery, and epilepsy.

Accelerating Development of Graphene-Based Neurointerfaces

With the grant, INBRAIN plans to accelerate its neuroelectronic device development, aiming to improve both the precision and personalization of treatments for neurological disorders. The funds will advance the BCI platform toward broader clinical application and scalable manufacturing.

The company also plans to explore new indications in neuropsychiatric care and expand its technological platform into peripheral and systemic bioelectronic therapies through its subsidiary INNERVIA Bioelectronics.

From Lab to Patient: A Decade of Innovation

Founded in 2019, INBRAIN is built on over ten years of research in graphene neurointerfaces. The company is developing what it describes as the world’s first graphene-based BCI therapeutics (BCI-Tx) platform. This real-time system uses AI-driven adaptive algorithms to monitor brain signals and adjust therapies continuously.

The company's Parkinson’s disease device has already received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation. Its technology aims to deliver more targeted therapy with fewer side effects by matching stimulation precisely to patient needs.

A Network of Strategic Partners and Previous Support

INBRAIN has received previous support through collaborations with industry leaders like Merck KGaA. Its subsidiary, INNERVIA, extends the technology to treat systemic and peripheral disorders, broadening the application of its core platform.

The PERTE Chip award adds to a growing list of endorsements for the company’s work in neurotechnology and materials science.
