Coram AI—a pioneer in LLM-powered video security—announced it has secured $13.8 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Battery Ventures, a global technology-focused investment firm.
Coram AI’s solution is designed to bring AI to video security and boost workplace safety and efficiency.
Existing investors 8VC and Mosaic Ventures also participated in the round. The post-money valuation was not disclosed. As part of the financing, Battery Partner Marcus Ryu—former co-founder and CEO of Guidewire Software—joins Coram’s board.
Coram AI’s hardware-agnostic platform was developed by AI and robotics experts with extensive experience in autonomous driving. It integrates advanced vision and language models to analyze video footage in real time, enabling security searches described in everyday language.
The system addresses critical needs in education, logistics, and manufacturing, quickly detecting threats or unwanted behaviors while also reducing waste. It can, for example, send an immediate alert in a school setting if it detects someone wielding a potential weapon.
“With the new generation of AI, human-level understanding of video is finally possible. We envision cameras evolving far beyond being mere video recorders—they will become a constant pair of eyes that keeps the public safe and secure in a privacy-sensitive manner. We're excited to bring the breakthroughs in large vision models to public safety. We witnessed firsthand how this technology accelerated the development of self-driving cars and significantly enhanced public safety."
Ashesh Jain, Coram’s CEO
Coram plans to use the proceeds to build more product lines and bolster its go-to-market and engineering teams.
By hiring additional experts in AI, robotics, and computer vision, the company aims to keep refining its real-time video analysis capabilities.
Its future goals include developing new features for enhanced public safety, expanding into more industries, and growing its base of customers who need a modernized security approach. The company expects these moves will strengthen its position as a leader in AI-native video security.
Founded by Ashesh Jain and Peter Ondruska, both former executives in Lyft’s autonomous driving division, Coram AI offers a platform that transforms standard security cameras into “virtual security guards.”
This approach interprets complex scenarios over extended timespans, making video monitoring far more efficient and actionable.
Coram’s leadership includes CEO Jain—who holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Cornell University and previously led the Autonomy & AI team at Lyft—and CTO Ondruska, who earned a Ph.D. in robotics from Oxford University and co-founded Blue Vision Labs. Coram’s board now features Marcus Ryu from Battery Ventures, further enhancing the company’s strategic direction.
The team believes their “AI-native” solution can make the world safer and more efficient by swiftly alerting organizations to potential risks, all while maintaining a privacy-sensitive approach.
The round was led by Battery Ventures, a global, technology-focused investment firm known for backing companies that harness advanced technologies to shape their industries.
“AI holds the key to unlocking value in the exabytes of unwatched video footage generated every day by security cameras, but delivering this value intuitively and cost-effectively to customers is a very hard challenge. Ashesh and Peter combine deep academic expertise in video processing and machine learning with technical pragmatism developed in the demanding domain of self-driving vehicles. This combination makes them, in my view, the ideal founding team to build winning consumer and enterprise video AI products for the vast security and safety markets.”
