SoundHound AI, a global leader in voice artificial intelligence, has just unveiled the first-ever in-vehicle voice commerce platform at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. This new platform makes it possible for drivers and passengers to order takeout for pick-up directly from a car’s infotainment system—an exciting leap forward in convenience and technology.
By showcasing a live demo at their booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall Level 1, Booth #4964, Vehicle Tech & Advanced Mobility), SoundHound hopes to highlight how voice-activated ordering could transform the way we dine on the go.
Imagine being able to say, “I’d like to order a burrito from the most convenient location on the way,” and then having your order ready for pick-up as soon as you arrive. This hands-free capability also allows you to easily pay and navigate to the pick-up location with minimal fuss. Think of it as letting the car do the heavy lifting so you can focus on driving.
To help everyone get a feel for this technology, CES attendees have been experimenting with example requests like “Show me the closest MOD Pizza restaurants,” followed by “I’d like to place an order from the first one to pick up,” and then “Navigate home.” These queries highlight how simple it is to blend everyday errands—like picking up dinner—into the flow of a journey, all without taking your hands off the wheel.
SoundHound AI is leading the charge to revolutionize how a car’s voice assistant is used. Rather than just playing music or checking the weather, this new approach makes real-world transactions—like ordering your favorite coffee or skipping the drive-thru—faster and more intuitive. Research shows that many drivers in the US and Europe would welcome a feature like this, and more than half said they’d use it regularly.
The company is already in talks with several notable automotive manufacturers, aiming to launch its new voice commerce ecosystem in 2025.
And beyond food orders, SoundHound sees potential for an even broader set of capabilities in the future, including banking, ticket purchasing, and scheduling appointments. Even other devices like smart TVs may soon offer similar voice-activated convenience. It’s all about creating an ecosystem where speaking naturally is the best way to get things done.
“This incredible moment has been decades in the making. With a technology that can exceed expectations, an ecosystem of millions of cars connecting to national restaurant brands with thousands of locations, we can finally launch the vision we have talked about for years. What we’re introducing here at CES is a seamless way to order your favorite takeout on-the-go using natural speech, completely hands-free from the vehicle. And what begins here with food and restaurants will ultimately open up a whole new commercial ecosystem for vehicle and device manufacturers everywhere.”
Keyvan Mohajer, CEO of SoundHound AI
While the CES demo focuses on food ordering, it’s just one part of SoundHound’s broader vision. The company already partners with diverse industries—from automotive to healthcare—and plans to develop further capabilities for everyday tasks, like confirming travel details or buying event tickets.
This momentum is partly driven by SoundHound’s acquisition of Allset, a strategic move that accelerated the development of its voice commerce ecosystem.
Just last week, SoundHound and Lucid Motors launched a generative AI-powered voice assistant specifically designed for Lucid vehicles. This partnership exemplifies how voice AI can combine real-time data, generative AI, and domain-specific knowledge to deliver accurate, up-to-date answers. As electric vehicles gain prominence, these advanced voice features will help EV drivers experience even more seamless navigation and everyday convenience.
